First... yes... I used Canva to create the image AND kept the stock photo of the beach because it was 50° yesterday and now its 20°... dare to dream.
Moving on...
I don’t teach life skills. Never have. But guess what? That didn’t stop life from throwing me straight into the deep end.
Recently, I completed an initial evaluation for a student who moved into my district. And let me tell you—I have no clue how she fell through the cracks, but somehow, in 8th grade, she needed ALL the support. After testing, observations, and a whole lot of head-scratching, it was determined that a life skills program was the best fit for her.
Great, right? Except for one minor detail: I needed to come up with life skills goals—and I hadn’t written those in years. Cue the frantic searching, overthinking, and endless second-guessing.
But here’s the thing: While we all know that life skills goals should be individualized, sometimes you just need a solid starting point. I found myself brainstorming, researching, and piecing together goals from scratch. And if I struggled, I knew other teachers were out there doing the exact same thing.
So, I made a decision. Why not make it easier for everyone?
