Do you struggle with Accommodations vs Modifications?

Accommodations vs. Modifications
Accommodations vs. Modifications

I get soooooo many questions about accommodations and modifications from new teachers, general education teachers, and parents. My district just adopted a new IEP format (did that happen everywhere?) and we are being asked to be more intentional with our writing. I knew this was coming a couple years ago when the highschool coordinator (I teach 8th so we have more up meetings with the HS) questioned why my accommodations and modifications were all just lumped together. I had no clue what she was talking about because that is all I ever knew-- that is how I was taught.

Any one else's College prep program forSPECIAL EDUCATIONonly give themoneclass on how to write an IEP? PS any colleges out there who read this-- hire me! I'd love to make this a whole course! They all focused on learning about disabilities and how to create accommodations and modifications. That's great and all but I definitely could've use some help on the paperwork side of things! I'll get into that on another post because I could go on and on.

I am working on creating a resource for teachers, old and new, to help make the IEP process easier. It really shouldn't be taking people HOURS to write these documens (unless maybe it's an initial). So here is a start. The way I describe the difference is that accommodationshelp (andhowthat happens) students access the same curriculum as their peers but modificationschangewhatthey learn (obviously while still keeping IEP goals and grade level standards in mind). Keep an eye out for more in depth products to help make your life easier!
